About Chabaso

Chabaso breads are sold frozen par-baked, to lock in flavor and bread quality, to grocers and foodservice operators throughout the Northeast and beyond. Reach out to us here.

Family-owned

Charles Negaro opened Atticus Bookstore on Yale University’s campus in 1975. In 1981 he added a cafe portion to the bookstore and started baking breads for the cafe menu.

The breads were such a hit that Charles decided to create another business just based off of those. After a few intense brainstorming sessions in the Negaro family’s kitchen, Chabaso was born as a combination of Charles’s children: Charlie, Abigail and Sophia.

In 2019, Charles stepped down from the day-to-day operations of Chabaso and his son Charlie stepped into the role of CEO.

Certified B Corp

Certified B Corporations, B Corps for short, are for-profit companies dedicated to using business as a force for good and that meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability to all of their stakeholders. Unlike traditional corporations, B Corps are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders: customers, workers, communities, and the environment.

In 2022 Chabaso became a certified B Corporation, and we continue to use the framework as a compass to harness Chabaso as a force for positive impact.

Some of the community projects we’ve embarked on in the spirit of B Corp include organizing a conference around regional Northeast grains, supporting food entrepreneurs throughout Connecticut, and embarking on inclusive hiring programs.
